ONE LAST RIDE

The Tigers of Gobles ended their season with a win against the Rams of Galesburg 28-22 on a cool fall evening in Gobles on Senior night.

Gobles had 239 yards rushing, Jackson Rumery led the Tigers with 81 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. Hunter Underwood had 61 yards on the ground with a touchdown. Special teams came up big when Hunter Underwood returned a kick return 60 yards for a touchdown. Kevin Heard went 3 of 6 for 76 yards and a touchdown through the air. Heard hit Joshua Lopez on a 47-yard strike in the second quarter, to cap the Tigers scoring for the night.

Michael Fifer, 8 tackles and a fumble recovery and Robbie Cummins with 9 tackles led the Tiger defense. Joshua Lopez had a key interception and Dylan Schafer recorded a sack.

Most people, even parents, don’t really understand what it means when a senior football players season comes to an end. They will never understand the finality of it for 95% of them. Any of them can play in a baseball or softball Rec league, get together for a pick-up basketball game, play a round of golf or run in a 5K. Most of these seniors have been putting on a helmet and shoulder pads each summer since they were in 3rd grade. You go from a game that you put your heart and soul, sweat and blood, for so many years to being completely shut out from it. Football is not a lifetime sport, but high school football is a once in a lifetime experience.

Caleb Brady, Michael Fifer, Zach Hall, Robin Von Holtz, Brandon Huizing, Charles Roden, Jackson Rumery and Hunter Underwood played in their last High School football game but will FOREVER be a Gobles Tiger and part of the Gobles Football family.

Lights will go out. Adrenaline will elope. Family will last.  by Jackson Rumery

TIGERS COME ROARING BACK TO GET SEASON OPENING WIN 32-24

The Tigers found themselves down 24-6 at halftime on Thursday night in Athens. Their belief in themselves, the roar of the fans, and having Caleb Brady on our sidelines was all the Tigers needed to make it a game of two halves. “Losing Caleb with a season-ending injury in our scrimmage, I didn't know how the team would respond, you don't just replace a player like Caleb,” said Coach Schafer. They responded by never giving up on each other. It was a complete team victory.

Hunter Underwood was the leading rusher with 135 yards and a touchdown. Jackson Rumery had 68 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns, Kevin Heard pitched in with two more touchdowns and Michael Fifer had 48 yards rushing.

Our defensive line, Charles Roden, Dylan Schafer, Andrew Lee and Joshua Lopez came up huge for us, keeping Athens to under 70 yards rushing for the game. Special teams also played a big role coming up with an onside kick recovery in the 4th quarter

“I couldn’t be prouder of a young group of men, to be down 24-6 at halftime and believe in each other enough to come back to score 26 points in the second half while holding Athens scoreless, ``said coach Schafer. Live Like a Tiger Coach Schafer
